Antena Aire Transitions Once Again
We wanted to write a note to let you know that Antena Aire is transitioning once again: we have decided not to create any new work as Antena Aire.
Over the last decade, Antena Aire existed beautifully and generatively as a collaborative project of Jen/Eleana Hofer and JD Pluecker. We grew, we labored, we wrote and translated, created performances and installations, organized in communities around language justice principles, and showed up for each other in ways big and small as we worked to create space for ourselves and others to extend our various intersecting practices in imaginative and instigating ways. We spent the past ten years of collaborations exploring and extending the boundaries of what was possible to create together, different from and beyond what either of us could do alone. Many projects and many connections have been possible through Antena Aire, and for that we are grateful.
Recently, we wrote a piece gesturing toward this transition, “Here we are close to being so far from where we began and still never not arriving.” Jen/Eleana read this text as part of a panel with Don Mee Choi on Translation and Language Justice, organized by Jen Scappetone at the University of Chicago. There is a video of the event here.
Right now, we continue to finish up a variety of projects: a book project archiving work from our decade of collaboration (Between Language and Justice, to be published by The Operating System), a translation project (The Travesti Museum of Perú by Giuseppe Campuzano), and a number of other smaller collaborations to which we had already committed in prior years. At this time, we will not be taking on new projects. That said, If you would like to talk to us about Antena Aire’s endeavors from 2010-2020, we would be happy to discuss that work. We will be actively pursuing the project of archiving, documenting, and reflecting on our collaborative work over the coming years, and would be delighted to share elements of that process publicly.
What happens if you wanted to work with Antena Aire on something upcoming? We have thoughts about that: both of us—Jen/Eleana and JD—have dynamic practices that continue to revolve around questions of translation, language justice, language as a site of resistance, and breaking with artistic and literary norms. You can check out Jen/Eleana’s practice here: https://www.channeltransmitrepeat.com/. And JD’s here: https://www.jdpluecker.com/. We would be happy to hear from you as individuals about projects, thinkings, questions, and intersections. We are not averse to collaborating again, though don’t plan to take on new joint projects in the immediate future. You can decide to contact one of us or both of us, depending on the project and your desires; we remain close friends and accomplices. We’d be happy to hear from you, and happy to talk about any aspect of this transition.
You can reach Jen/Eleana at hola@channeltransmitrepeat.com, and JD at plujo7@gmail.com.
With love,
Antena Aire
